Hey guys! So, this week “The Little Mermaid LIVE” is going to be on ABC! I am super excited to see how ABC handles this musical.
This will be their first live musical to put on. Hamish Hamilton is the producer. In the past, he has helped to produce the Super Bowl halftime shows, the Oscars, and the opening and closing Olympic ceremonies.
Earlier today the producer of the musical did an interview with Entertainment Weekly to show us what to expect as we watch the show. In his interview he talked about how the show will be very different than every other live musical that NBC and Fox have put on. Because of the nature of the show and the fact that it is almost all underwater, they decided to have the show be half live and half the original Disney film.
When talking about the of making these underwater scenes, Hamilton told Entertainment Weekly, ” Being underwater is kind of difficult! We’re trying to bring something to life underwater and that’s tough. But it’s been marvelous.” He talked about how they will incorporate the movie screen with the live musical numbers. He explained that the movie screen will be in the middle of the room with everyone dancing around it. He told Entertainment Weekly that it will kind of be like the audience is watching a concert–just on TV.
Hamilton also talked about the cast and how everyone in the cast has a special love for The Little Mermaid. He talked about how they are super excited to be able to be part of this new rendition of the loved Disney movie. Some of the cast includes Auli’i Cravalho as Ariel, Queen Latifah as Ursula, John Stamos as Chef Louis, Graham Phillips as Prince Eric, and Shaggy as Sebastian.
